School Information Management System

What is a school information management system, after all?

A school information management system (SIMS) is a student information system and a school management system. At the core, it manages data and tasks related to school academic activities. Its stakeholders, that is, the main people involved with it, are the administrations, directors, principals, teachers, students, parents, and guardians. Some SIMS extend services to alumni and financials people.

The nature of SIMS

When a school deploys a SIMS, the platform will be used by hundreds or thousands of users assuming different roles and located in different places. Moreover, the information and tasks that SIMS processes is often quite large, especially at peak times when a high number of users access the software concurrently. Consequently, the SIMS architecture needs to accommodate many, many users along with demanding loads. The first and dominant multi-user architecture was the client/server on a local area network (LAN), where the SIMS resides on a computer server and users access it from client computers connected together and to the server via a local area network (LAN). With the advent of the Internet and the hand-held devices, the school information management system moved to the next level, getting beyond the locality and confinements of the LAN to reside on the Internet, and started to service users on the move from any location word-wide. The third shift was to cloud deployment, where the school now need not worry about where to deploy the SIMS software and how to maintain, back up, and protect it, but could delegate this work to cloud hosting third-parties.

Skoolee as a SIMS success story

One such school information management system is Skoolee. It is a coherent assembly of a broad range of modules, covering admissions, registration, grade book, agenda, exam, assignment, assessment, content download, discussion groups, calendar, notifications, buses, and reporting. It has add-on modules that manage payroll, account receivables, bank integration, time tables, and schedules. Skoolee’s modular structure allows the school to deploy all of the modules at once or rather only some of them now and then scale up to deploy yet more in sequential phases.

Of course, not all users can get into all of the screens of Skoolee. Which screens the users can access and which functions they can perform depend of the user’s role and position. This, in Skoolee, we call user access privilege, and Skoolee manages it thoroughly.

And, in these mobile times, you will surely like to download and run Skoolee Mobile. It runs on Android and iOS, and provides a total mobility for all of the functions of Skoolee SIS. Give it a try! Go ahead and download Skoolee Mobile from Google Play or App Store.

This said, Skoolee SIMS and Mobile have been deployed in schools in Lebanon, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, and Algeria. It services national, international baccalaureate, high school, and British curricula, and is used by tens of thousands of, may we say, happy school administrators, students, teachers, and parents.
